Attentiveness

A few weeks ago I stepped up in the church service to lighten my bladder. I tip toed through the sanctuary as to not disturb anyone with my clackity clack heals. I made it to the bathroom and there was a woman washing her hands along side of me. She dried her hands and looked down at my feet and without even thinking she asked "may I buckle your shoes for you sweetie?" I smiled and said "although buckling my shoes these days is tricky, I actually plan on taking them off as soon as I get back to my seat so that I can feel the cold cement on my feet." She laughed and said she understood the feeling and the moment was over.

That little incident got me thinking... how often are we attentive to things around us. And to dig even deeper, how often do we offer to help out in what we are attentive to. Does God use our attentiveness to do His work?

I feel like attentiveness is one of the major qualities I want my children to have. I have been praying for this quality to dwell within the baby inside of me. Not just in a pay-attention-to-the-teacher attentiveness but a purposeful living attentiveness.

"Hear, my sons, the instruction of a father, And attend to know understanding."
-Prov 4:1

"My son, attend unto my wisdom; Incline thine ear to my understanding."
-Prov 5:1

"Incline thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, And apply thy heart unto my knowledge."
-Prov 22:17
Does this picture demonstrate attentiveness?
Maybe not, but it sure fills me with smiles and love!
